IMPORTANT: New Licensing Systems Launches May 18

May 11, 2026

Brothers and Sisters,

The Massachusetts Division of Occupational Licensure (DOL) is launching a new online licensing platform called eLIPSE on Monday, May 18, 2026, for the Board of Examiners of Sheet Metal Workers.

This new platform will replace ePLACE and will be used for:

  • License applications and verifications
  • Renewals
  • Status updates

ACTION REQUIRED
Any pending applications or renewals currently in ePLACE must be completed by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.
After that deadline, incomplete items in ePLACE may not transfer into the new system.

What is changing on Monday, May 18:

  • Applications and renewals will be completed online through eLIPSE
  • Paper renewals will no longer be accepted
  • Licenses will now be issued digitally instead of mailed hard copies
  • Members will be able to verify licenses digitally through screenshots, printouts, or by logging into eLIPSE

NOTE: Renewals will require additional documentation, including a notarized CORI Authorization form.

When creating your account, be sure your first and last name match your license exactly.

Members looking to prepare for the transition to eLIPSE can review setup instructions and walkthrough materials through the eLIPSE How-to Guides.

Additional licensing information and updates from the Board of Examiners of Sheet Metal Workers are available on the Sheet Metal Workers Board website.

We encourage all members to review any pending licensing items as soon as possible to avoid delays.

In solidarity,
Russell Bartash
